David lives and works in San Francisco and recently graduated from San Francisco Art Institute with a BFA. He passionately draws and paints most of the time and has become skillful in most mediums that allow for him to work out his imaginative and complex ideas. He is a gifted draftsman and painter who often will make intimate narratives that may be provocative as well as revealing.

Artist Statement for David Gremard Romero

The fundamental theme that unifies all of my work is my love and fascination in the work of the old masters, specifically of the Baroque and Rococo periods. Their perfection of craft, their narrative drive, and their explicit connection to history are themes that I interpret and explore. Through the painting of contemporary images with a specific choice of subject matter I seek to tease out hidden relationships and continuities between classical art and current culture. Thus I use the methods and schema of the past as a tool to explore contemporary issues of race, sexuality subjectivity and identity.
